so as i mentioned in my "hello stranger" post, i live in the middle of nowhere, canada. this causes me great stress when i see something new that i need to have right now. so since i have nothing better to do i've been doing an extensive amount of research trying to find websites that will deliver my favourite brands to me here in canada. they also have to deliver to me without costing me an arm and a leg. i will do my best to keep an updated list here in this post. if you have any sites to add to the list, please pass them along so i can post them and so everyone can enjoy shopping on them:)
www.sephora.com
free shipping over $120 CAD, otherwise $9.95, free samples, takes only canadian credit cards, customs/duty is included in your price so there's no surprises when you pick up your parcel (awesomeness!).
www.ebay.ca
shipping varies but has gotten better since the feedback rating system changed. can pay with paypal (bonus!) or other methods depending on seller. i've bought a lot of makeup off ebay and haven't had any problems myself, but be careful as there is a lot of fake stuff on there (like mac brushes and pigments).
www.fyrinnae.com
hadn't heard of this site until i joined mua but i checked it out and i'm so glad i did. you can buy great quality makeup for cheap and the best part is the shipping to canada is super cheap! i paid about $6 to ship 13 items and they even marked the value as under $20 so i didn't have to pay duty! i love you, fyrinnae!
www.makeupalley.com
now this isn't an e-tailer but i had to include it. this sweet site lets you trade your unwanted/neglected/used or unused makeup with other product whores from around the world! great way to try new things and save money (and to give your neglected products a good home)!
www.visiondirect.com
okay so this is more for contact lenses (which, thanfully, i don't need yet) but in a mad search for a cheaper way to buy tarte cosmetics, i came across this website. they only have a few things but the stuff they do have is some of the faster selling (and therefore always "out of stock") items that you can't find elsewhere. the shipping isn't great, but it's tolerable.
www.dermstore.ca
this site confuses me because it's canadian but they still ship from the states and they don't offer all the brands they offer on their american site. anyways, they do have an extensive list of brands on the canadian site and they pay the shipping, duties, and taxes on orders over $75 which is pretty sweet!
www.dhc.com
i ordered a dhc starter pack off ebay because it was cheaper but the dhc website delivers to canada and the shipping is decent. they also offer 3 free samples with purchase. this brand isn't easy to find in canada so it's helpful that they ship here.
www.dermadoctor.com
for those of us with skin problems - thank god there's dermadoctor! i haven't yet, but i'm going to order their kp duty cream and scrub since it's cheaper on there than on sephora (after conversion to canadian dollars/duty) but i'm guessing it'll equal out to the same after i get hit with customs fees:S but at least shipping is decent (around $6).
www.fragrancex.com
not the prettiest of websites (nor is it easy to find what you're looking for) but who cares when you're saving so much money! and you get free shipping anywhere in the world if you use the cupon code "free" haha. oh they have makeup and fragrances in case you were wondering.
www.beautive.com
these nice people also offer free worldwide shipping but i find their stock is limited. i guess you better get there fast!
www.strawberrynet.com
i'm not sure about this site although it seems legit. they have an ebay store which i find has some of the same stuff (not all) listed for cheaper, but then you sometimes have to pay shipping so i'd check out both their site and their ebay store. fragrance shipping is 10% of purchase ($15 max) and everything else ships free worldwide! they sometimes also have awesome first-time-buyer gifts so look for their promotions on their website.
www.maccosmetics.com
haven't actually ordered from them yet, but they usually have a free shipping code listed on the homepage (if not, visit www.retailmenot.com and type maccosmetics.com in the search bar to find valid codes). i find their swatches aren't great but a quick search of beauty blogs will find you better ones and then if you live in the middle of nowhere like i do, you can still get your mac fix without worrying about buying fake mac off ebay.
i'll continue to update this as i come across more/remember others/get email tips:)

hello, stranger: the awkward first post
so this is (quite obviously) my first post. i just wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little about what this blog will entail so you know what you're getting yourself into:)
my name is erin. i'm 24 years old. i am from canada and am currently living in the middle of nowhere which is actually very close to the center of the country. needless to say, there are no sephora shops or department stores or outlet malls (or any real malls for that matter) anywhere near me so i spend a lot of time online trying to get my beauty fix. i love all things pop culture and i spend a lot of time focusing on things of that nature (fashion, music, televsion, movies, advertising, art, etc). i have another blog called "backstage betty productions" where you can get more of a taste of my musical interests (mostly concert reviews and pictures) if you'd like.
now on to "self-absorbed product whores" - please don't be offended by the name. i'm a very sarcastic person and i love to laugh so this name, although partly very honest, is really just for laughs. my beauty blog will focus mostly on my beauty obsessions:D there are many other beauty blogs out there that are far superior to mine (and will continue to be long after i've actually made some real posts) and i encourage you to read them as well. i will keep an updated list of all the beauty blogs i read in case you're interested. this blog won't necessarily be like those other blogs - i may start ranting about one of my other interests if if sort of relates or instead of just posting swatches and allowing you to make your own opinion while i remain neutral, i will likely tell you flat out how i feel about a product or a certain collection because i have an opinion and i'm not affraid to voice it! that also means that you can leave your comments voicing your own opinion on the same topic and i won't be offended if you disagree with me (*i promise*).
anyways, i hope you enjoy my blog. hopefully you'll find something of use on here. anyways, my contact info is posted and you should feel free to use it if you find something you think would be of interest to me or even if you just want to ask me a question or say "hi". i'll try to respond to everyone in a timely manner:)
thanks for stopping by!
